Texas FAQs
Wonderfully! We have floors installed throughout Texas and even more humid places like Florida. Maintaining consistent relative humidity in your home is important for ideal floor performance, since wood can take on moisture and expand in a very humid environment.
Like most wood floor companies, a range of 30%-65% relative humidity ensures our floors will perform wonderfully. If your indoor relative humidity exceeds 65% (that's high even for Houston, y'all), a whole home dehumidifier is a great solution.
No. Our material comes packaged in plastic at a specific moisture content so you can just open up the cartons and begin installing right away. If you wish to wait a few days or weeks to install after the flooring has arrived, simply leave the flooring in its package.
While all of our floors can handle some water, most of our products will swell if puddles are left to soak into the wood. However, our Rebels collection can hold up to standing water for 24 hours. The one-of-a-kind construction makes these floors the perfect solution for lake houses, mud rooms, full bathrooms, and families with young kids or pets.
You can easily float or glue down our flooring over a slab. Floating is the fastest and least expensive installation method because the floor isn't attached to the subfloor, so few additional tools and materials are needed. But it's often the most troublesome to get right since there are a lot of things to consider, especially in a large home. Glue down is typically more costly since you're paying extra for glue and possibly more time to install by the crew, however, it allows for more customization options and is often the most common on-slab method in Texas. For a list of pros and cons for each installation method, check out our blog post on the topic here.
Mold and mildew can be problematic with concrete slab foundations because moisture is absorbed from the ground by the porous slab. We recommend using our Nature All-In-One underlayment for floating installations – it acts as a moisture barrier and has antimicrobial properties, so mold literally cannot grow against it. For glue down installations, we recommend Bona R851 adhesive. This glue has a built-in moisture barrier to protect your floors from moisture below. Plus, it's zero VOC and Greenguard Gold certified.
Texas post oak flooring is a type of white oak often used in lodges and cabins. It's a very character-heavy species of wood, with many knots, cracks, and grain patterns. While we appreciate the beauty of post oaks (in the landscape and as wood), we find that European white oak is more versatile. Our floors – almost all of which are European white oak – range in character, so you can find the perfect aesthetic for your project. On each of our product pages, you'll find a slider that indicates whether a floor leans modern (few knots and cracks) or rustic (heavy with knots, cracks, and grain variations).

We're Austin-based with Scandi roots
Our founder, Marc Bacher, started Stuga after spending years working for the original inventors of engineered hardwood flooring in Sweden. Stuga launched in Colorado with a collection of floors from this very manufacturer, and shortly moved to our current home base in Austin, Texas. Today, we continue to source our floors from the best manufacturers in Europe. We ship all of our samples and produce our stair nosings by hand in our Austin shop.
