Shell Bloks bring the soft, sun-washed character of white oak into a handcrafted square format, with a subtle white stain that quiets warmer tones while hand scraping and heavy brushing draw out the grain and natural knots. Each Blok is custom cut from a single board of Stuga’s Icons flooring, Shell, transforming the original plank into squares designed for more creative applications.

It is parquet reduced to its simplest geometry. Every piece has an eased edge, or bevel, on all four sides. An oil finish creates the signature ultra-matte, tactile surface that feels wonderfully organic underfoot.

Bloks do not possess any tongue or groove, as they are meant to be laid adjacent to each other in alternating directions to create a striking visual pattern. The approved installation method of this floor is glue-down only. This product must be oiled immediately after installation.

Each Blok is a 7 ⅜”” × 7 ⅜”” square cut from our Shell plank.

*THIS IS AN OILED FLOOR and needs to be oiled with Satin Oil immediately after installation.

Lead time is 8-10 weeks.

Certifications
We’re rooted in Scandinavian sustainability practices. That means building floors that last 100 years, certified against the toughest environmental and indoor air quality restrictions in the world.

Bloks started with the idea that I loved the history and geometry of parquet flooring, but wanted to create a version that felt quieter, more modern, and more architectural. Rather than an intricate pattern made up of many small pieces, we reduced the idea to its most elemental form: a square of wood.

Shell Bloks FAQ's

Yes, absolutely. You will need to modify the planks by removing the tongue or groove, depending on the direction, so the Bloks and planks meet each other flush. The design possibilities are endless!

All Stuga Bloks are installed via glue-down. They cannot be stapled or floated. Since they have no tongue or groove, install pieces adjacent to one another in alternating directions. Any premium wood flooring adhesive is sufficient with a full trowel method. You can download our installation instructions HERE.

Yes, they can. You will need to use the corresponding plank nosing with each Blok. For example, Afterwork nosings work with Afterwork Bloks. The same goes for Shell and Happy Hour. Since Bloks don't have a tongue or groove, you'll need to modify the stair nosing (remove the tongue) so it sits flush with the Bloks.

At this time, we do not. The easiest way to make your own edge piece is to cut a mitered return.

It's fairly attribute heavy, meaning it will have varying sizes of knots throughout, some up to 3" in size, in addition to fully filled in cracks that are up to 8-9" in length on some boards. There is a wide range of wood graining in Shell which makes this such a breathtaking floor, allowing you to experience the full variety of a trees characteristics. Dark browns are present around the knots while creamy tans and lighter medullary rays occupy some planks.

Our clients like our oiled floors because the detailed texture of the wood can be experienced in a closer way than traditional top-coat finishes. You can really "feel" the wood which is sensory enhancing and very grounding. Plus they age gracefully over time like antique furniture. They quite possibly will look better 10 years from now than they do right out of the box. Scratches and dings can be spot-oiled to minimize their appearance.

Not really. It does need to be oiled immediately after installation with our Satin Oil, which is very, very easy to apply with the dust mop and pad provided in your Welcome Box. The oil is a protective layer against anything from above, like water and other liquids that can stain the wood. Think of it like protecting an old piece of furniture.

Every year we recommend to re-oil high traffic areas, any areas that take a lot of wear and tear from above like kitchens or entryways. This re-oiling can be done area by area with the dust mop and pad. There is no need to remove all furniture and rugs, etc., since very little traffic is happening in those areas. When spot oiling annually, the area will dry in 6-8 hours and takes a full 24 hours to cure so if you oil before bed or prior to spending a weekend away, that's ideal.

Oiled floors can stain here or there, but we think these signs of life make a floor that much more beautiful. Most stains will fade with time and exposure to sunlight. To address stubborn stains, we recommend using a stain remover formulated specifically for oiled floors, such as this one by Woca. Avoid leaving anything wet on your floors to minimize stains and avoid damage.

Yes!

Absolutely! We do recommend re-oiling every year in a kitchen to ensure it's protected from stains from above.

Absolutely! This floor performs wonderfully in any area of the home except a full bath.

If necessary, we recommend using Mohawk fil-stik crayons, which we include in your welcome box. The Mohawk colors we recommend for Shell are Natural Hickory Maple II, Khaki Quiet Grove, Sandstone Oak, and Natural Maple.

You can also use Rubio Monocoat for minor touch-ups. The Rubio color we recommend is called Natural. Small sample bottles can be purchased at various websites.

Yes, two times. The likelihood of you ever sanding/refinishing your floor is very low. The likelihood of you sanding your floor twice is essentially zero. The main reasons for sanding/refinishing your floors is if they've been heavily neglected and abused to the point of severe damage, or if you wish to change the color. But, sleep peacefully knowing that these floors will last a lifetime for you or the next owners of your space.

We don't consider this to be a high contrast floor. Boards can vary between light tan to muted brown. This adds an subtle organic movement to the floor which is quite calming.

Since it's such a long plank, yes, it's very likely that the carrier won't be capable of bringing the pallet onto the ground. We recommend having a few people there to assist in taking the cartons off of the truck and into your home. Generally speaking, our carriers will not hand-carry cartons into your house since they are only contracted for curbside delivery.

It's made in a carbon negative factory in southern Sweden, which collects and recycles all wood waste into biofuel.
