When designer Natalie Myers of Veneer Designs was called in to give this 1990s L.A. home a much-needed refresh, she brought the magic. She leaned into the homeowners' desire for a minimal Scandi-meets-Australian look and delivered a happy home filled with cool architecture and Nordic-inspired design.

Setting the stage for the Scandinavian influence are our Fika floors. Natalie used the wide-plank blonde oak Scandinavian flooring to play off the fresh white walls and bounce around the plentiful natural light the beautiful home enjoys all day long. Fika gives the home a stunning base which Natalie plays with by adding fun abstract art, handcrafted tile, and furniture that looks as cozy as cool.

A Modern Staircase Welcomes Guests

The staircase of the house was a traditional 1990s staircase when Natalie first walked in the door. At Stuga, we believe rounded, stained-to-match stairs are a thing of the past and everyone deserves an amazing staircase. Natalie brought in our flush nosings and a custom iron railing to take this staircase from dated to a total showstopper.

To completely renovate the staircase was out of budget, so Natalie kept the original layout and updated it with Stuga flush nosings. The new step's modern profile and seamless transition between tread and riser brought these stairs back to life. This staircase still wraps around the room but now it's in a fresh and contemporary way.

Organic modern home renovation featuring white oak flooring

Fika Plays Into the "Scandifornian" Vibe

The floors play well with this modern minimal home that is full of fun elements and some serious design. Fika brings warmth to the white walls while still staying a neutral base. It's light and bright and brings the outside in with its connection to the happiest forests in the world. The timeless tones and subtle character of Fika help to make this home a showstopper now, but also ensure that it will age with grace.

Natalie needed a floor that would be a stunner of an element itself, but would allow the rest of the house to share the spotlight. The modern yet ageless blonde oak of Fika complements the white oak cabinetry and furniture. It serves as a neutral base for the abstract art and cool lighting Natalie chose throughout the home. Fika is the element that is carried throughout the house, tying each room together.

"I was looking for a beautifully finished and sustainably produced white oak engineered flooring material at a digestible price point and I found it." said Natalie. "Having the Swedish origin product goes hand in hand with my Scandifornian aesthetic."

Natalie created this fun and modern space for a young family of six. She embraced the Scandi ethos that the role of design is to improve the lives of everyone by using minimalistic Scandinavian flooring that highlights the best features of the home.
