FAQs

Q: How can I get larger samples?

A: Larger 2'x3' samples are available to order on each product's page for a cost of $10, which includes free shipping. This cost is credited towards your flooring purchase.

Q: Can your floors be floated, stapled, and glued?

A: Yes, any installation method above is possible with our 5/8" and 1/2" thick floors. Our 1/4" floors are only able to be floated or glued down.

Q: Can your floors be sanded?

A: Yes! All of our floors can be sanded with the exception of most of our Budget Floors. The Budget Floors that can be sanded are Reef and Trench Oak. Keep in mind this is something that is rarely done these days unless you wish to change the color of your floor. Our floors can easily be recoated or re-oiled if you're looking to remove scratches.

Q: Can I put your floors in a basement?

A: Yes! Unlike many floors, ours work wonderfully in a basement. Installing one of our underlayments, like Eco Plus, and floating any of our floors over that ensures the floor is protected from moisture below and will perform incredibly for years to come. Our locking system makes the installation a breeze.

Q: Do I have to replace or refinish my entire floor if I have an appliance leak?

A: No! You can replace boards rather than refinishing your entire floor. Our floors offer more versatility and reduced costs than traditional onsite finished floors when confronted with a home disaster like a water leak.

Q: Do your floors need to acclimate?

A: No! We are unique in that the high-quality construction of our hardwood floors does not require acclimation.

Q: How long does shipping take?

A: All of our products are warehoused in Pennsylvania. Typical lead times are 1-2 weeks depending on your location.

Q: How do I clean my floor?

A: Dry cleaning is the best way to clean hardwood floors. Vacuum and clean with a broom regularly and occasionally use a damp, well-wrung-out cloth/mop. Only dampen the floor slightly. The film of water left by the floor cloth must dry within a minute. For best results, use Kährs Spray Cleaner every few months.

Q: Do your oiled floors require a lot of maintenance?

A: No! Our oiled floors age wonderfully, have been popular in Europe of years, and don't require any special equipment to maintain. We require applying the oil directly after installation and before any furniture is moved back onto the floor. It's as easy as pouring it on and mopping it in. Q: What is the warranty on your floors?

A: Kährs has been manufacturing quality, engineered wood floors for more than 70 years – floors that have been perfected over the years. This means that we can offer more extensive guarantees than any other wood floor manufacturer. Kährs offers a lifetime structural guarantee and up to a 25 year wear through warranty. You can read the full warranty here. Kährs can truly stand by their lifetime warranty because they have floors in Sweden that have been lived on for that long.

Q: I have kids and dogs. How will your floors perform?

A: Nearly all wood floors will scratch and dent. Be wary of companies that market incredible resilience against wear and tear. Unscratchable finishes often have loads of harsh chemicals in them, which make them unhealthy and also very difficult to refinish. In normal family conditions, our floors will perform wonderfully. On the other hand, if you throw the ball in your house with your 100lb German Shephard then you will see scratches. We advise clients with heavy wear and tear households to choose lighter, rustic floors since they hide scratches better. That being said, light floors do show more dirt than dark floors so be aware of that gong in. Our oiled floors can be re-oiled and refurbished, which helps them age wonderfully like an old piece of wood furniture. Their character takes center stage over time. Our UV Acrylic finishes can easily be recoated since they are solvent-free, another wonderful benefit compared to other manufacturers which often demand sanding and finishing to get rid of scratches.
